The AMES experience is a study of electric field, magnetic and light of the atmosphere as the aurora borealis.

On the ground surface, there is vertical atmospheric electric field. The intensity reaches 100 V/m. If you stand on the ground (picture A), equivalent electric potential immediately changes because you are much more conductive than atmospheric air. Therefore, it is hard to measure true atmospheric electric field.

The instruments consist of a field mill, light sensors and the digital data logger. The DDG gathers data from the field mill.

For BEXUS, AMES will fly in a box independent in the BEXUS gondola to be totally independent.
